Topic: Soca
Fun in soca that doesn't mention the word jam, wine or wave is so rare that it is indeed a precious gem! That is what this remake of "Happy" is to me. Starts off interestingly with Bunji hailing his soca monarch wins (he's proud and should be) and Fay Ann's Road March win! Then they go into the "story" song about Bunji and Fay Ann who are in fact beaus irl.
My favorite line in this jumpy, moving soca gem is "Like yuh want meh tuh freeze" ...simple but cute! There are other memorable parts of this song, which is both well-written and expertly arranged. Why it has not caught on in popularity is a testament to the high standard of songs that have been released this year, but not a sign of any lack on the part of the song or the performance. Kudos to the writers, arrangers and performers...this song has revitalised the old-fashioned "Happy" giving it a second spin, that is well worth listening to...over...and over again.
